Shura debates draft law on patients’ rights

By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: Dec 19: The health committee of Majlis Ash’shura on Monday discussed a draft law that will ensure the safety and rights of patients. The committee also discussed the need to preserve the confidentiality of files of patients in hospitals and at the same time ensure a cordial relationship between doctors and patients. It was pointed that there was no law in Oman that gives patients the right to claim correct information on their medical/ health status. The panel discussed the fact that there is no special law in Oman that safeguards rights of patients to claim or receive information on his/ her state of health.


Meanwhile, the committee on education discussed a number of topics related to students who need special education. A number of specialists on special education from Ministry of Education made a presentation on the services and facilities provided to students with special needs, including availability of teachers for special education and rehabilitation programmes. They also discussed the challenges facing the ministry in dealing with groups of people with special needs.
