Shura concludes discussion with Minister Sajwani

Muscat: Majlis Ash’shura session on Thursday was presided over by Shaikh Khalid bin Hilal al Maawali, Chairman of Majlis Ash’shura.


For the second consecutive day, the Majlis discussed the statement of Dr Fuad bin Jaafar al Sajwani, Minister of Agriculture and Fisheries, which included seven themes namely performance indicators of the agricultural and fisheries sectors, the assessment of the fisheries sector, the plant production, the agricultural sector (livestock), the agricultural and fisheries development fund, the Public Authority for Stores and Food Reserve (PASFR), and external agricultural investment.


The Majlis members affirmed that His Majesty Sultan Qaboos’s focus on economic diversification by enhancing the contribution of the agriculture to the economy.


They underlined the need that all concerned bodies should observe the Royal Directives of His Majesty, noting the need for the presence of these sectors as top priorities of the National Programme to Enhance Economic Diversification (Tanfeedh).


Further, the members made a request to the minister to establish an independent body for food and medicine to strengthen and intensify the control of food and medicine safety in the Sultanate.


They also called for establishing central markets for fruits and vegetables along with the fish markets in the Sultanate’s governorates.


The members highlighted the lack of staff working in veterinary clinics, requesting the ministry to hire more staffers. They also called more staffers to take care of bee hives. — ONA
