Seminar on investment prospects in food security begins

SALALAH: A seminar titled, ‘Investment Prospects in Food Security: Opportunities and Challenges” was organised on Wednesday at Hilton Salalah Hotel. The seminar is organised by Oman Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), represented by Food Security Committee, in cooperation with OCCI Branch in the Governorate of Dhofar. The opening ceremony was sponsored by Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar.


The seminar programme included the first main paper entitled “The Efforts of the Arab Authority for Agricultural Investment and Development (AAAID) in Relation to Food Security Projects and the Most Important Challenges Facing AAAID”, presented by Mohamed bin Ubaid al Mazroui, President of AAAID.


Dr Tariq bin Mousa al Zadjali, former Director-General of the Arab Organization for Agricultural Development (AOAD), presented the second main paper entitled “Responsible Agricultural Investment Abroad to Enhance Food Security in the Sultanate.”


The seminar programme included 7 working papers.


The first paper dealt with “Majlis Ash’shura’s View on Food Investment Opportunities and Most Important Challenges,” presented by Hilal bin Said al Yahyai, Head of Food and Water Security Committee at Majlis Ash’shura.


The second working paper dealt with agricultural and fish investment opportunities in the Sultanate and most important challenges, presented by Munir bin Hussein al Lawati, Director of Planning and Development at the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries.


The third working paper dealt with “The Experience of Dhofar Cattle Feed Company in the Field of Food Security” presented by Dr Khairy Hassan Is’haq, the economic expert of the company.


The fourth working paper dealt with “The Role of the Omani Agricultural Association in Food Security, presented by Ghusson bin Hamad al Rashidi, Secretary of the Association.


The fifth working paper dealt with ‘The Efforts of Omani Food Investment Holding Company in the Field of Food Security: Prospects and Challenges” presented by Salim bin Saif al Abdali, Director of Business Development in the Company, Chairman of the Organizing Committee of the seminar.


The sixth working paper highlighted “The Role of the Public Authority for Stores and Food Reserve (PASFR) Times of Crisis” presented by Salim bin Sulaiman al Naabi, Director of the Authority in the Governorate of Muscat.


The seventh working paper dealt with ‘The Efforts of the College of Agricultural and Maritime Sciences at Sultan Qaboos University in the Field of Food Security, with a Focus on the Outputs of the College”, delivered by Dr Rashid bin Abdullah al Yahyai, Dean of the College. — ONA
