By Amal Al Riyami — NIZWA: Jan 2: The second phase of the Holy Quran competition for schools in the Directorate General of Education in Al Dakhiliyah has concluded at the Educational Training and Professional Development Center in Nizwa. The competition was organised and supervised by Islamic Education Section in the Human Resource Development Department. Winners will be able to participate in the third phase of the competition, which will be held during the second semester. The six levels of the competition will see 80 finalists.

Dr Moosa bin Mohammed al Sulaimani, Head of Islamic Education Section, said: “Competitions started at the beginning of the academic year. We held preliminary competitions to nominate winners at every level. After the third level, six male students and six female students will be nominated to contest at the national level,” he said.

Suleiman bin Abdullah al Adawi, the first supervisor for Islamic Education, said: “This year, schools gave a lot of importance for memorising the Holy Quran.”

The competition was divided into six levels. The first level included memorising ten parts of the Quran. In the second level, Grade 11 and 12 students had to memorise five parts. Third level saw the memorisation of four sequential parts by Grade 8 to 10 students.

The fourth level — memorising three sequential parts — was for Grade 5 to 7 students, fifth level (memorising two parts) was for Grade 3 and 4 students and the sixth level (memorising one part) for Grade 1 and 2 students.
