By Amal Al Riyami — NIZWA: Dec 21: A scout camp for students was organised by Al Mozn Basic Education School in the Wilayat of Nizwa in Al Dakhiliyah. It was held at Al Nojoom playground. A total of 70 boys and girls from Al Mozn School and four other schools — Shoulat Al Alam School, Madinat Al Alam School, Falaj Daris School and Ruboua Al Jabal School – participated in the camp. The camp began with the installation of tents. Students learnt how to pitch tents in a proper manner. They learned about pottery and tried their hand at making some utensils with clay.

They learnt how to use a fire extinguisher. They learnt about the importance of health and nutrition, and the food they should eat to develop immunity from diseases. Participants also learned how to use a rope and types of knots. Khadija al Subaihi, scout activity supervisor at Al Mozn School, said: “Scouting helps children love adventure and succeed in life. When large groups of boys or girls of similar age have a common goal, be it sports or community service, they learn valuable team skills.” Al Subaihi said teamwork, leadership, perseverance and good communication will help children succeed in life. “We are trying to instill these qualities in them.”
