Kuwait: Saudi Arabia shocked the Kuwaiti crowd of (63,000) as they defeated Kuwait 2-1 in the 23rd Arabian Gulf Cup opener. The game followed by the spectacular opening ceremony patronised by His Highness the Amir Shaikh Sabah Al Ahmed Al Jaber al Sabah at Jaber International Stadium, the Saudi Arabia team (B) took the lead in the 13th minute when the superstar Ahmed al Furaidi sent a nice pass to Salma al Musher who netted the goal.

The hosts then fought hard to equalise but the Saudi men managed to go to half-time with 1-0 their lead. The Kuwaiti players started the second half attacking the Saudi goalkeeper and they missed some chances but Mukhtar Fallatah doubled it in the 50th minute for a counter attack. The Blue Waves did not give up until Abdullah al Buraiki came in from the Bench to fire the crowd from the first touch after he received a brilliant pass by Bader al Mutwaa to score the first and only goal for Kuwait. Despite the Kuwaiti defeat the crowds enjoyed watching their national team who played again after the international ban lifted by the Fifa after more than two years.
