SALALAH: The Information Centre at Samahram Archaeological Park was opened in the Governorate of Dhofar on Monday under the auspices of Sayyid Khalid bin Hilal al Busaidy, Minister of the Diwan of the Royal Court. The opening ceremony was attended by Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar, Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Chairman of the Public Authority for Radio and Television (PART), members at the State Council, members at Majlis Ash’shura, President of the Italian Pisa University, who is currently visiting the Sultanate, and Prof Alessandra Avanzini, Head of the Italian Archaeological Mission to the Sultanate.
Hassan bin Abdullah al Jabri, Director of Archeological Sites Department at the Office of the Advisor to His Majesty the Sultan for Cultural Affairs, highlighted the attention accorded to cultural heritage and the long human heritage in the Sultanate since the dawn of the Blessed Renaissance under the prosperous reign of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. After that, the Chief Guest launched the Information Centre. Then, he and the attendees toured the Centre and Samahram Archeological Park.
The Information Centre includes a presentation hall, outdoor shaded sitting area and general information about the site, as well as major facilities and services for visitors. The presentation hall contains a screen to provide a documentary on the Samahram Archaeological Park in general and the settlement of Samahram in particular in both Arabic and English, highlighting the complete dimension of the site and its historical, cultural and geographical importance through the ages.
The documentary includes virtual scenes that embody the nature and aspects of everyday life in that period of time. The presentation hall contains touch screens to present a collection of archaeological discoveries in Samahram Archaeological Park and the surrounding sites, dating back to different periods of time, as well as a brief explanation of the historical settlement of Samahram.
Tomorrow, another Information Centre at Wubar Archaeological Site will be opened under the auspices of Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar.
The Information Centre includes a presentation hall that comprises a screen to show a documentary through three devices, general information about Wubar Archaeological Site and various utilities for visitors. The documentary narrates the story of the site, its historic and archeological dimensions and scenes of the Blessed Renaissance march under the leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.
The sites of Samahram, Wubar, Al Baleed and Wadi Dokka are registered sites on the World Heritage List under the name of the Frankincense Land Sites. — ONA
