Muscat, June 10 -

Sales of cosmetics and perfumes have slumped 50-60 per cent in the last two weeks, according to traders.

Most of the downtown cosmetics shops located in the OC Centre and elsewhere in Ruwi confirmed sales of cosmetics and perfumes were below average.

“Sales of cosmetics have been below average. Going by past experience, the graph will go down further,” said Hussain, a vendor at the OC Centre.

Some traders feel the reason is women use less make-up during the holy month.

“The dip in cosmetics’ sales is mostly because women hardly use make-up during the days of fasting and prayers,” said Haji Suhail Khan, who has been in the industry for about three decades.

However, Khan said the demand for concentrate, oud and oud’s attar is on the rise.

“Demand for oud, oud’s attar and other concentrates has been steady. We expect a sudden rise in the demand for the same towards Eid,” he said.

Shops selling oud, concentrate and oud’s attars are open till late night, awaiting clients who come after the special prayers.
