Salam Air’s maiden flight today

By Kabeer Yousuf — MUSCAT: Jan 29 - SalamAir, Oman’s first budget airline, will take off from Salalah to Muscat at 10.05 am on Monday. The carrier’s first aircraft was displayed at the Muscat International Airport on Sunday under the auspices of His Highness Sayyid Taimur bin Asaad al Said. The airline will offer twice-daily services to Salalah and back. SalamAir’s first commercial flight will take off from Salalah Airport on Monday to Muscat International Airport. “Two more services would be added, one in mid-February and another in March,” Francois Bouteiller, CEO of SalamAir, told the Observer. Dubai will be added to the carrier’s destinations by mid-February followed by Saudi Arabia.

In future, it plans to fly to Karachi, Sialkot and Multan in Pakistan. Speaking on the occasion, Khalid bin Hilal al Yahmadi, Chairman of SalamAir, said: “We are proud to make this dream a reality in 12 months and grateful to the immense support we received from our shareholders, authorities concerned and our team who demonstrated great dedication and commitment to deliver this project with high levels of quality and efficiency. We are happy to note that 68 per cent of our staff is Omani and that several small and medium enterprises contributed to this accomplishment.
