Salalah, Nov 15 - Dhofar Governorate won a huge National Day gift in the form of a project for a new Sultan Qaboos Hospital in Salalah, the contract for which was signed between the Ministry of Health (MoH) and Carillion Alawi. The contract was signed by Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Saidi, Minister of Health, and Executive Director of Carillion Alawi at the Office of the Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar on Wednesday.

Speaking to the Observer after signing the agreement, Al Saidi said the hospital is likely to be completed in less than four years. Expressing happiness over the initiatives taken by MoH to upgrade healthcare facilities in Oman, he said the latest contract is one of the largest projects in MoH’s history after the Khoula Hospital in Muscat. “This is a great month for Oman. This is the month of celebration, the month of projects and the month of success,” said the minister. According to him, the 620-bed hospital will be built over an area of 200,000 sqm. “The special thing is its design,. It will be environment-friendly for patients and staff working there,” he said.
