MUSCAT: Baha Faisal’s late equaliser spared the blushes of Al Wehdat goalkeeper Amer Shafi as the Jordanians salvaged a 1-1 draw with Saham of Oman in the 2017 AFC Cup at Sultan Qaboos Stadium in Muscat on Tuesday. Shafi had given Saham the lead in the 29th minute when he fumbled Jildemar’s deflected shot over his own goal line as the three-time semi-finalists looked set to slip to their first defeat of the campaign. But Faisal levelled the scores six minutes from time with a drive that went in off the underside of the crossbar to maintain Al Wehdat’s unbeaten start to the campaign as Adnan Hamed’s side retained top spot in Group C.

Al SUWAIQ LOSE

In Amman, Ahmed al Essawi scored 14 minutes from time as Jordan’s Al Ahli came back from going a goal down to hand Al Suwaiq of Oman a 2-1 defeat that ensures Jamal Mahmoud’s team remain in contention for a place in the knockout phase of the 2017 AFC Cup. Yaseen al Sheyadi had given the visitors the lead in the 55th minute with a scruffy tap-in from close range, but Elhadji Malick Tall’s goal seven minutes later set Al Essawi up to claim the winner in the 76th minute when he headed into the top corner. The win moves Al Ahli onto five points from four games while Al Suwaiq remain on two points and rooted to the bottom of the standings.
