Royal Hospital launches mini-gastric bypass surgery

The Royal Hospital (RH) has launched the Mini gastric bypass surgery (MGBP), an unconventional therapeutic service in the field of Obesity Diseases treatment. The mini-gastric bypass procedure targets extremely obese patients with acute diabetes or those who cannot undergo sleeve gastrostomy, in addition to the obese patients who have consumed all weight-loss methods.


The procedure is performed laparoscopically by making five incisions on the abdomen with only 0.5-1 cm diameter, reaching instrument inside the abdomen to make a pouch on the intestine that would be fused to the smaller intestine.


This surgical procedure carries certain advantages most of them are reducing absorption of food and the size of the stomach consequently the patient feels full quicker when eating small amount of food. This interventional method is likewise helps the patient in losing weight by 75 per cent during the first year of operation. Moreover, compared to the traditional gastric bypass surgeries, the MGBP is a more successful approach considering its excellent results and reduced post-surgical complications risks, besides its high success rate.


officials pointed out that this therapeutic technique requires a full commitment from the patients in order to boost their weight loss results. Patient should practice a healthy lifestyle, eat, and drink nutritious foods, and on the other hand, he/she should be dedicated to avoiding harmful habits.
