Royal Cavalry clinch Elite Cup

MUSCAT, March 1: The Royal Cavalry won the 2017/2018 Elite Cup, organised by the Omani Equestrian Federation (OEF) at the Al Rahba Race Course under the auspices of Hussein bin Ali al Hilali, Attorney General.


Also present were Sayyid Munthir bin Saif bin Hamad al Busaidi, OEF Chairman, Shaikh Abdullah bin Mohammed al Braiki, Wali of Barka, and Mohammed bin Issa al Fayrouz, President of the International Tent Pegging Federation.


The two-day Elite Cup, with the participation of 68 horse riders from various government cavalry units, took part in 17 teams and competed in individual and team rounds for the sword and lance.


The first day competitions included two races each is made of two rounds of 6 cm and 4 cm. The first round to pick up two rings, the second round to cut two lemons and tent pegging. The overall ranking was led by the Royal cavalry team consisting of Hamad bin Nasser al Riyami, Khalfan bin Khamis al Rawahi, Omar bin Said al Hasani and Safwan bin Zaid al Maamari by 266 points.


In the second place (with 260 points) were the cavalry of Mudarraat Sultan of Oman (Armour's Division), represented by Hilal bin Hassan al Balushi, Nasser bin Rashid al Siyabi, Hisham bin Ali al Bakri, Ali bin Khamis al Balushi. The third place was won by cavalry of the Mudarraat Sultan of Oman represented by Khalid bin Amer al Habsi, Yasir bin Barot al Hasani, A'hid bin Khamis al Balushi and Zaid bin Hamoud al Saeedi with 254 points.


The fourth position went to the Royal Guard Cavalry Team, represented by Ayoub bin Khamis al Toubi, Saleh bin Ali al Hasani, Dhafer bin Rashid al Zaabi and Ali bin Hamoud al Rajaibi, with 250 points.


The competitions of the second day were allocated to teams with three races and each is made of two rounds 6 cm and 4 cm, the first round to pick up lance and the second round to pick up sword for teams. The third round relay. The title was won by the Royal Cavalry, represented by Hamad bin Nasser al Riyami, Khalfan bin Khamis al Rawahi, Omar bin Said al Hasani and Safwan bin Zaid al Maamari with 365 points.


The Mudarraat Sultan of Oman came in the second place, represented by Hilal bin Hassan al Balushi, Nasser bin Rashid al Siyabi, Hisham bin Ali al Bakri, Ali bin Khamis al Balushi, with 354.5 points.


The third place went to the Royal Guard Cavalry represented by riders Ayoub bin Khamis al Toubi, Saleh bin Ali al Hosni, Dhafer bin Rashid al Zaabi and Ali bin Hamoud al Ragaibi by 353.5 points.


The fourth place went to Mudarrat Sultan of Oman represented by Khali bin A'mer al Habsi, Yasir bin Barot al Hasani, A'hid bin Khamis al Balushi and Zaid bin Hamoud al Saeedi by 328 points.


Rider Nasser bin Rashid al Siyabi came first and won the cup of the elite followed by Faisal bin Ali al Rashidi of the Royal Cavalry and Ayoub bin Khamis al Toubi of the Royal Guard of Oman.


Nasser bin Rashid al Siyabi came first at the side tent pegging competition among three horse riders and managed to win the Elite Cup for the second successive year. Yousef bin Salim al Masrouri came fourth.


Turkiyah bint Mahmoud al Balushiyah of the Mudarraat Sultan of Oman clinched the cup for the best female horse rider at the Elite Cup competition with 76 points followed by Bashair bint Juma al Balushiyah of the Royal Cavalry with 70 points and Amal bint Abdullah al Maskariyah from Mudarraat Sultan of Oman took third place with 66 points.


At the end of the competition, Hussein bin Ali al Hilali, Attorney General awarded the trophies to the top winners and honoured other winners. -- ONA
