Muscat: Royal Oman Police (ROP) has reiterated that jumping red signals is a crime, which can be detected through the images captured by technological features such as the radars.

The captured data will be processed for a legal action, in which the vehicle will be seized and the driver arrested for more than 48 hours.

Article 130 of the executive regulations of the Traffic Law permits the arrest of the driver for a period not exceeding 48 for the completion of the investigation.

Article (130/N) of the same regulation allowed the seizure of the vehicle in violation if it belongs to the same driver.

Captain Ishaq al Tobi of the Royal Oman Police added that any crime has to be investigated based on tangible and intangible evidences. Various factors including the emergency situation that could have

led to to the overrun will be also taken into the account. It will consider when the overrun resulted into traffic congestion or accidents.

He said jumping the red signal is one of the deliberate or intentional crimes and it can be also proved if the  crime is due to negligence or due to lack of caution.
