MUSCAT, JUNE 6 - Come Khareef, the Royal Oman Police (ROP) will distribute some 200 child seats, courtesy the Landmark Group and its Babyshop which have been supporting the national cause as part of the 14th edition of its Child Safety First initiative. First Lieutenant Saif bin Sultan al Adawi from the ROP received the car seats from Ali bin Malallah al Lawati, Chairman, Al Habib Group, Clive Freeman, COO, Landmark Group-Oman and Meherdad Tirandaz, Concept Manager, Babyshop at an event held at the Oasis Mall on Wednesday.

“Offering child car seats to the motorists is a great way to reduce accidents and child fatalities,” said Al Adawi. “We will be distributing these seats at the Salalah Tourism Festival followed by other governorates and wilayats at similar events aiming at traffic safety.” This year, the main focus of the campaign is parental awareness about the importance of child car seats in automobiles, helping parents and caregivers make sure their children ride as safely as possible in every trip. “We are delighted to partner with the ROP to raise awareness of the recent changes in the law regarding child and car safety. We will be conducting workshops across Oman reinforcing the lifesaving potential of simply placing a child in a properly fitted car seat.”

“As a community retailer with stores throughout the Sultanate, we see this as an opportunity to reach out and support all families in all areas,” said Clive Freeman, COO, Landmark Group. Although the traffic accidents have reduced by 38 per cent in the Sultanate, the number of children getting involved in road accidents has not changed. Safety seats for children under the age of four have been made compulsory in Oman by the ROP and offenders would be fined. “There have been many cases of traffic violation when it comes to buckling children up and we have been slapping them with fines. This campaign would work as an eye opener for many parents,” Al Adawi hoped.
