ROP marks International Customs Day

MUSCAT: Royal Oman Police (ROP) on Thursday marked the International Customs Day which comes this year under the theme ‘Secure Business Environment for Economic Development.’


The event which was organised by the Directorate General of Customs at its headquarters in the Governorate of Muscat was held under the sponsorship Maj Gen Sulaiman bin Mohammed al Harthy, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Administrative and Financial Affairs in the presence of a number representatives of the public and private organisations involved in custom work.


The event included a video on the development witnessed by customs in the Sultanate and the achievements made by the Directorate General of Customs in the past years, such as improving the custom systems by introducing ‘Bayan’ system, establishing a risk management operation centre, a custom communicating centre and introducing modern technologies and inspection systems.


The developments contributed to increasing the custom revenues, facilitating trade and encouraging investments.


On the sidelines of the event, the Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Administrative and Financial Affairs and chief guest accompanied by attendees toured the custom exhibition which documents the history of the Omani customs and the role of the Directorate General of Customs, as well as the achievements it has made.


The exhibition also displays the banned items spotted by the Directorate General of Customs and the role played by it in protecting the economy and combating commercial fraud. — ONA
