ROP celebrates Annual Day with grand parade

MUSCAT: The Royal Oman Police (ROP) celebrated on Thursday its Annual Day, which falls on January 5 each year.


The celebration was held at the Military Parade Field of the Sultan Qaboos Academy for Police Sciences (SQAPS) in the Wilayat of Nizwa, Al Dakhiliyah Governorate, under the patronage of Gen Sayyid Munthir bin Majid al Said, Head of Liaison and Coordination at the Royal Office.


The ceremony was attended by a number of ministers, advisers, commanders of the Sultan’s Armed Forces, security services, members of the State Council and Majlis Ash’shura, judges, local officials, shaikhs, dignitaries of the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah and parents of the graduates.


Upon the arrival of the chief guest, ROP music band played the national anthem, then the commander of the column requested permission from the chief guest to inspect the front line of the parade. The graduates passed before the main dais in a military parade. The chief guest then handed over awards to top graduates.


The academy banner was then handed over from the 39th batch of cadet officers to the 40th batch of cadet officers. The graduates sang the ROP anthem and took the oath of loyalty and allegiance while ROP band played the Royal Anthem marking the end of the parade. The event concluded with the ROP cavalry parade passing before the main dais.


The chief guest, in the presence of the Inspector General of Police and Customs and a number of senior ROP officers, conferred the medal of good conduct on a number of ROP officers. He also handed over ROP Cup for SQAPS which topped the list of the best police facility competition. He handed over ROP Award for Criminal Investigation 2016 to the Governorate of Al Dhahirah Police Command.


At the associated events of the ROP Day, Lt Gen Hassan bin Mohsin al Shraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs, sponsored a celebration to hand over the academic certificates to the graduated officers and recognising the supervision and training staff at the courses of the graduated officers. He also conferred the orders of good conduct and long service on a number of officers.


The celebration was attended by Maj Gen Sulaiman bin Mohammed al Harthy, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Administrative and Financial Affairs, Maj Gen Hamad bin Sulaiman al Hatmi, Assistant Inspector General of Police and Customs for Operations and a number of ROP formations’ commanders.


A cultural evening was also held under the auspices of Lt Gen Hassan bin Mohsin al Shraiqi, Inspector General of Police and Customs.


The Research and Studies Centre at SQAPS published the 28th version of Al Amanah magazine, an annual scientific arbitrated magazine that includes a number of studies, legal and scientific researches and assorted articles. — ONA
