The Royal Opera House Muscat (ROHM) will present the amazing ‘Swingles’ on April 15, on Saturday, at 4 pm.
Seven young singers amaze audiences with their mesmerising sounds and incredible vocal gymnastics. They demonstrate just how versatile the human voice is and how it can create almost any mood or atmosphere.
This thrilling ensemble reaches the heights when it performs a cappella or without any instrumental accompaniment. Named after Ward Swingle who founded the group in Paris in 1962, with changing membership, the Swingles stay young and have been entertaining audiences in increasingly innovative ways ever since.
Their rich and wide-ranging repertoire presently includes songs and their own special sound influenced by pop and classical music, as well as original contemporary interpretations with innovative jazz-influenced harmonies.
The Swingles’ stage show has evolved into a full-blown choreographed spectacle with dramatic lighting and special effects.
There is nothing ordinary about the Swingles.
They are unlike any other vocal group — they do not simply sing songs. Their freshly created pieces are beautifully strange, evocative and intriguing with special vocal effects, whether in soaring crescendos of unidentifiable sounds or in rhythmic, almost orchestral pieces composed of the human voice only.
The Swingles have won an impressive five Grammy® awards and have a superb collection of more than fifty recordings and numerous film and TV soundtracks.
In 2015 the Swingles released two new albums — the sonically audacious Deep End and a Christmas album, Yule Song Vol II.Whether performing with the National Symphony Orchestra or in a cappella settings, The Swingle Singers were never less than dazzling” , wrote the Washington Post.
