RO 270 million for new hospitals

Dr Ahmed bin Mohammed al Saeedi, Minister of Health, on Thursday signed agreements for Khasab Hospital Project (Carillion Alawi Company) and Al Suwaiq Hospital Project (IHG company). The minister expressed his thanks and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos for His Majesty’s continuous support for the health sector in the Sultanate.


Speaking at the press conference, the minister said the total cost for the Sultan Qaboos Hospitals project in Salalah, Al Suwaiq and Khasab stood at RO 270 million, which was funded by the UK Export Credit Agency in coordination with the Ministry of Finance.


He said that the three projects are important additions to the health sector in the Sultanate as they will generate job opportunities for Omanis and enhance economic growth for the country.


He said that Suwaiq Hospital will cover the needs of the wilayat and other nearby wilayats. The minister said that expansion of Nizwa Hospital will add 239 beds and Royal Hospital’s expansion will add 56 additional beds and noted that the total cost of the expansions and the new hospitals stood at RO 312 million.


All these projects will be implemented at different dates, depending on the size of the hospital.


The signing ceremony was attended by the under-secretaries of the Ministry of Health, the adviser of the Ministry of Health for Health Affairs, officials at the ministry and representatives of the companies. — ONA
