Residential plots issued in Muscat rises 13.5 per cent till October

MUSCAT: There has been a 13.5-per cent increase in the number of residential lands granted by the Government in the Governorate of Muscat during the first 10 months of this year, according to the latest bulletin issued by the National Centre for Statistics and Information (NCSI). However, during the period, the total number of residential plots issued by the Government across governorates declined 11.5 per cent to 27,363 from 30,917 lands granted in 2015. The highest increase in the number of issued residential plots was recorded in the Governorate of Musandam, with the number of issued lands going up to 272 from last year’s 28, logging a rise of 871.4 per cent. In contrast, the Governorate of Dhofar saw a sharp 56.5 per cent fall in the number of issued residential plots at 1,174, as against 2,701 lands granted last year during the 10-month period.


The number of lands issued rose 13.5 per cent to 1,986 in the Governorate of Muscat compared with 1,750 lands granted by the end of October last year, while the Governorate of Al Buraimi recorded a 46.2-per cent growth in the number of issued lands at 421 as against 288 plots issued last year.


The Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah issued 5,095 residential lands, which is 14 per cent down from last year’s 5,934 plots. The Governorate of North Al Batinah granted 3,173 lands (a rise of 4.2 per cent) while the Governorate of South Al Batinah granted 4,614 lands (a fall of 18.4 per cent). Both the Governorates of North and South Al Sharqiyah registered a fall in the number of granted residential lands at 0.6 per cent and 17.9 per cent, with issued plots declining to 4,115 and 1,890 respectively.


The Governorate of Al Dhahirah, on the other hand, registered a 314.8-per cent rise in the number of granted residential lands at 3,887 as against 937 lands allotted last year. The number of residential lands granted in the Governorate of Al Wusta went up to 736, marking a 76.9-per cent growth over last year’s 416 residential plots issued. — ONA
