Registrations open for TRC’s Hackathon Muttrah 2017

MUSCAT: The Research Council (TRC) has announced the opening of registration for participation in Hackathon Muttrah, 2017 as part of the Smart City project implemented by TRC in cooperation with Muscat Municipality, the Supreme Council for Planning and the Information Technology Authority. The aim of the project is to incentivize innovation in the field of smart cities. It also comes part of national efforts to boost partnership between the state institutions.


TRC confirmed that the smart cities initiatives in the Sultanate targets to keep pace with current and future challenges through the utilization of smart technologies and innovative solutions. The Smart City seeks to create a platform for communication, dialogue and cooperation between all sectors linked to it as well as support innovative and research projects in smart cities in general and Muttrah city in particular.


Other objectives include conducting workshops and conferences for capacity building in the sectors linked to the smart cities, increasing awareness about the activities, projects and strategies of the smart cities in the Sultanate.


TRC said the hackathon is aimed at providing opportunities for the innovators to help them find solutions to the challenges facing the smart cities, creating awareness about the challenges and opportunities of transforming existing cities into smart cities and highlighting the role of the smart city platform as a pioneer of the smart city activities. In this first-of-a-kind 2-day Smart City Hackathon residents including academics, students, and professionals will get together to develop best solutions for the historic district of Muttrah.


The hackathon will be held on November 3 and 4 preceded by orientation and explanation of targets to participants.
