Muscat, May 30 - The Higher Education Admission Centre (HEAC) has extended the registration for higher education courses for the academic year 2018-2019 until 2:00 pm, June 7. The decision comes after Cyclone Mekunu hit Dhofar and Al Wusta governorates. The registration was supposed to close on June 1. Around 40,224 students — 19,846 men and 20,378 women — completed registration until Wednesday morning. The number of students from the governorate of Dhofar stood at 3,182 while 349 students from Al Wusta registered. It is expected that the extension for the registration stage will provide an opportunity for students who have not been able to enrol or choose their course choices due to the cyclone. The centre also urged all students to complete their registration before deadline. The students who fail to register during this period will miss the opportunity to apply to all courses, and may register in subsequent stages only if there are vacancies.
