MUSCAT, OCT 31 - The sixth edition of Regional Cyber Security Summit will be held in Oman on November 20 and 21 this year.

The summit will be a platform to discuss cyber threats that are constantly evolving and threatening to affect global organisations in their day to day activities. “There are a large number of cybercrimes happening all over the world leading to huge financial losses to both government and private sector entities”, said Badr Ali al Salehi, Director General of Oman National CERT.

He was speaking at a press conference to announce the details of the summit to be hosted by Information Technology Authority of Oman and Oman National CERT, organised by ITU-Arab Regional Cybersecurity Centre in collaboration with White Paper Summits and Nispana Innovative Platforms.

In order to have a strategic security system, businesses need to invest in cybersecurity practices that are most relevant to today’s advanced attacks, al Salehi said. “In Oman, every government and private sector establishments will be asked to have a cyber security system in place to escape attacks”, he said on the occasion.

With the advent of digitisation among the countries of the Middle East and growing exposure to the risk of cyber-attacks, governments in the Middle East have now directed their focus more on cybersecurity, releasing cybersecurity frameworks and mandating country-specific regulatory policies emphasising the need to have efficient monitoring and detection in place.

In a view of tackling such threats, the cost of implementing IT security solutions has significantly increased and expected to reach $101 billion in 2018 globally.

Middle East and North Africa (MENA) spending on cyber security technology and services, is on pace to reach $13.43 billion by 2019, with an expected CAGR of 13.7 per cent for the period 2013-2019.

By 2019, 30 per cent of large enterprises will increase their security consulting services spending as they transition into digital business.
