Record 52,000 passengers a day at Muscat airport

Muscat, Aug 25 - The Muscat International Airport recently set a record in handling passengers. “The airport handled 52,000 passengers on August 16, including arrivals and departures. It is a record for any airport in Oman,” said an Oman Airports statement. There has been a 11.9-per cent increase in the number of passengers (8 million) handled in the first seven months of 2018 at the airport compared with 7.2 million a year ago. Thirteen million passengers travelled through Muscat in 2017. At the same time, the number of transit passengers declined 44.3 per cent to 10,956 in the first seven months of 2018 from 19,679 in 2017. Salalah airport saw a 19.5-per cent decline in the total number of passengers travelling through it. A total of 265,552 passengers used the airport in the first seven months of 2018 as against 329,926 in 2017.
