Realex club lifts trophy

MUSCAT: Host team Realex football club lifted the Realex Challengers trophy last Friday at the Ghubra power plant ground when they defeated Muscat United football club 3-1 in the final. The star player of Realex, Mohammed Nihal, who was off colour in the preliminary rounds, came up with a hat-trick in the final to lift his team to victory.


Sixteen teams took part in the tournament which was supervised by Omani referees Rashid Mubarak al Harthi and Abdul Wahad al Hadabbi. Large numbers of spectators were presented in the ground cheering their teams with noted sports commentator Salih Thacher presenting the electrifying live commentary on the ground. Most of the matches had produced high quality of football much to the thrill of the crowd. The one-day event which started in the morning at 9 am till late in the evening was organised by Realex football club.


In the semifinals, Realex defeated Soccar Fans 1-0 and Muscat United defeated United Kerala 2-1 in a tense match. The winning goal by Muscat United came in the final moment of the game.


However, United Kerala won the second runners-up trophy when they defeated Soccar Fans in the toss after both the teams drew level in the penalty shoot-out.


Mohammed Nihal of Realex was declared the player of the tournament for his wonderful performance in the knock-out stages, while Harish of United Kerala was adjudged the best goalkeeper of the tournament. Individual trophies were given to the players of both winners and runners-up team along with the huge Realex challengers trophy. Moideen, Managing Director of Blue Sapphite International and Shanawaz Majeed, Managing Director of Muscat Oasis Trading along with other members of the club gave away the prizes.
