A rare set of cow triplets in the German state of Lower Saxony named named Flecki, Blacky and Berta are alive and well after surviving their birth in February. “The calves are now six weeks old, meaning they have survived th etoughest period,” local farmer Benjamin Bentz said. “They were born completely naturally, without hormone treatment,” headded. Births of cow triplets are extremely rare according to Wolfgang Ehrecke, from the state’s chamber of agriculture. From around 700,000 cow births per year in the region, one or two of the births involve triplets, Ehrecke said. Normally not all animals survive. The animals, born on February 27, would normally be separated from their mother and raised separately. This time however, the triplets will be brought up together, Bentz said. — DPA
