Muscat, July 30 - Rain and thundershowers, accompanied by wind and hail, are expected until Tuesday in and around Al Hajar Mountains, the Met office has said.

While Sunday morning saw Muscat cloudy, the Met office quickly ruled out rain. “These are low-level clouds that come in from the sea. They bring in humidity, but no chance of rain.”

Low-lying clouds have been found during late nights and early mornings.

Advection clouds that had formed earlier are also disappearing.

The humidity in Muscat is expected to be in the range of 65-95 per cent and in Salalah, 85-98 per cent. In Salalah, however, intermittent drizzle and overcast clouds have been the flavour of the monsoon season.

The wind directions are expected to play their distinctive roles in different parts of Oman.

Along the coastal areas of Oman Sea, winds are expected to be northeasterly light to moderate during the day and variable light at night. Along the coastal areas of Arabian Sea, it will be southwesterly moderate to fresh and over rest of the Sultanate, it will be southerly to southeasterly light to moderate.

Sea is expected to be rough along the coastal areas of Arabian Sea with a maximum wave height of four metres and slight along the rest of Oman’s coast, with a maximum wave height of 1.25 metres. The Met office has cautioned motorists about poor horizontal visibility during drizzle and thundershowers.
