Kuwait City: Defending champions Qatar started off their 23rd Gulf Cup campaign with a resounding win against minnows Yemen 4-0 in the Group B match at Al Kuwait Sports Club on Saturday. Qatar were off to business at the start itself when Akram Atif found the target in the second minute. Al Mahdi Ali Mukhtar increased the lead in the fifth minute and AlMoaez Ali completed the half-time score of 3-0 with another goal. Yemen valiantly fought in the second half and defended well until Ro-Ro netted in the 84th minute to finish off the proceedings.

BAHRAIN, IRAQ SPLIT POINTS

In the second match at the Al Kuwait Sports Club, Bahrain and Iraq split points with a 1-1 draw. Both the teams failed to score in the first-half of the Group B match. After the break, Bahrain pressed hard and Iraq also were in the thick of actions. However, it was Bahrain who went ahead in the 79th minute through a Jamal Rashid goal. Iraq were level on terms when they equalised through Mohannad Abdul-Raheem in the 88th minute.
