Public sector employees undergo media training

MUSCAT: The two-day “Media Departments at Public Organizations: Challenges and Aspirations” organized by the Ministry of Information on Wednesday began at Grand Hormuz Hotel under the auspices of Sheikh Khalid bin Omar al Marhoon, Minister of Civil Service.


Dr Abdulmunim bin Mansour al Hasani, Minister of Information, in his address said that the fourth stage of the training programme on communication skills with media means builds upon the three previous stages.


“The training programme aims at enhancing the skills and performance of employees at the public relations and media departments at the various public organisations,” he added.


“The programme targets trainees at the media and public relations department at the various ministries in a bid to have a qualified cadre that the public organisation can rely on in dealing with media means and public opinion in a professional manner”, he mentioned.


He also pointed out that the fourth stage includes a number of working papers that cover the major challenges facing public organisations and the aspirations.


During the opening ceremony, Dr Ubaid bin Said al Shaqsi, from Sultan Qaboos University (SQU) gave a presentation on the study conducted by the Ministry of Information in collaboration with SQU under the title “Future Knowledge Needs of the Omani Public from the Awareness Programme”.


The first day included three sessions.


The first session on “Institutional Communications at the Public Organizations” included three working papers on media work policies in the Sultanate by Ali bin Khalfan al Jabri, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Information.


The second working paper on the media departments and their relations with other departments at the organisation was presented by Khalid al Aamri.


The third working paper on the digital media and effect-making was presented by Abdul Aziz bin Said al Muqbali.


The second session on “The Organizational Charts and the Actual Reality of the Media Departments” included two working papers.


The first working paper on the organisational charts for the media departments at the civil service organizations was presented by Sayyid Salim bin Musalam al Busaidi, Under-Secretary of the Ministry of Civil Service for Administrative Development Affairs.


The second working paper on the reality of the media departments at the public organisations was presented by Najat al Mahthoriyah.


The third session on “Managing Crisis by Media” included one working paper by Dr Ubaid bin Said al Shaqsi on the experiences on media management of crisis.


The fourth session on “The Relationship between Media Departments at the Public Organization and Media Means” will be held today. —  ONA
