MUSCAT: High level officials of the Ministry of Health joined leading Muscat-based physicians and pharmacists at celebrations marking the 51st anniversary of the founding of prominent Indian orthopaedic hospital, Sancheti Institute for Orthopaedics and Rehabilitation, based in Pune in western state of Maharashtra.

Present at the celebrations, held at Crowne Plaza Muscat recently, were Dr Sultan bin Yarub al Busaidy, Adviser for Health Affairs, Ministry of Health; Mubarak Hamed al Hinai — Consul General of the Sultanate of Oman to India; and Indra Mani Pandey — Indian Ambassador to the Sultanate of Oman. Also feted on the occasion was Dr K H Sancheti, founder of the hospital and a recipient of numerous civilian awards and accolades in India and abroad. The well-known surgeon is credited with pioneering the introduction of specialist orthopaedic surgical services in Pune at a time when healthcare services were rudimentary.

“It’s been over five decades since we launched the Sancheti hospital in Pune. Since then, we have undertaken numerous operations not only in India, but across the world as well. Orthopaedic surgery was not well developed at the time, with hardly any specialities. But now times have changed and we have specialised colleges and experts who are proficient in their fields.”
