MUSCAT: A professional development training session was organized for the primary and middle school teachers of Indian School Al Ghubra recently. The facilitators for the session were Dr Rekha Kumar and Indira Subramanian from The Teacher Foundation, Bangalore. The vision of the organization is ‘to make schools, enabling environments, for all students by empowering educators to become energetic, effective, reflective practitioners and life-long learners.’

The main theme of the session was the ‘Dimensions of Learning’. Through group activities, the facilitators imparted the key principles of the theme which involved developing positive attitudes and perceptions about learning, how to acquire and integrate, extend and refine knowledge and also about productive habits of the mind.

It was a highly productive and interactive session in which the sixty participants were kept engaged through thought-provoking group activities. They came up with strategies that would enable learners to assimilate, retain and apply knowledge meaningfully. The energisers in between the group activities kept the group motivated and focused. The training session indeed honed and renewed the skill and the enthusiasm of the participating educators. The two days of intense professional development will no doubt help them to be more effective practitioners of their profession.
