Pilgrims from Sultanate set for Haj

Muscat, August 26 - The final batch of Haj pilgrims from Sultanate reached Mecca on Saturday, the last date for entering the holy land.


The military Haj Mission also left the country on Saturday for the holy lands on board Royal Air Force of Oman aircraft to perform annual pilgrimage.


The mission was seen off at the Seeb Air Base by Rear Admiral Khamis bin Abdullah al Raisi, Commander of the Royal Navy of Oman and a number of senior offices at the ministry of defence, Sultan’s Armed Forces, Royal Guard, Royal Oman Police,


Royal Court Affairs and the other security forces.


The first flight to Mecca carrying Haj pilgrims from the Sultanate left on August 18, followed by the official Omani Haj mission delegation led by Sultan al Hinai on the next day.


Nearly 150-160 officials were part of the official delegation comprising top officials from the ministry, representatives of ministries, including ministries of health and education, and Royal Oman Police (ROP) officials, besides many volunteers. The official delegation will return on September 7.


Hundreds of copies of Holy Quran were distributed among Haj pilgrims, representatives of an NGO told the Observer.
