Muscat, DEC 25 - The UK-based engineering giant, Petrofac, has announced that it has secured a contract valued at around $115 million for the development of the Qarn Alam Co-Generation Project in central Oman. The contract is the latest in a series of awards clinched by Petrofac in Oman and the second to be secured under a 10-year Framework Agreement with Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), signed in 2017 to provide Engineering, Procurement and Construction Management (EPCm) Support Services for PDO’s major oil and gas projects.

According to a statement issued by Petrofac, the 36-month project scope includes installation and commissioning support for a Gas Turbine Generator Package with one Heat Recovery Steam Generator at the power plant which was built to support oil extraction at Qarn Alam. Engineering, Procurement and Project Management activities will be undertaken from Petrofac’s Muscat office.

Roberto Bertocco, managing director, EPCm for Petrofac stated: “We are pleased to have secured this second project with PDO under the long-term framework agreement established last year.

“Petrofac has been working in Oman for more than 30 years. Local delivery remains key and we will continue to invest in Omani content to drive maximum in-country value. This is particularly important as we continue to grow our office in Muscat through the delivery of major projects in the Sultanate.”
