MUSCAT, DEC 31 - Petroleum Development Oman (PDO) has officially inaugurated three public majlises in Wadi Aarah, Zakher and Fatkhait at Wilayat Shaleem in an event which was attended by PDO External Affairs and Value Creation Director Abdul Amir bin Abdul Hussain al Ajmi in the presence of the Wali of Shaleem Shaikh Mohamed Berham Ba Omer, and other government officials, shaikhs and residents.

The buildings were funded by PDO in an effort to provide safe and suitable community gathering spaces for the villages and the surrounding communities. Each majlis consists of a large public space and storage and kitchen facilities to be used for social celebrations and gatherings.

Al Ajmi, who was guest of honour at the opening ceremony, said: “It is my pleasure to inaugurate the public majlises in the presence of such leading local dignitaries. These buildings will serve the community in various functions such as official, social and youth gatherings and they will also be vital social hubs. The projects reaffirm PDO’s ongoing commitment to community support. We are determined to continue to reach out and create more value and sustainability for people across the Sultanate.”

Shaikh Mohammed Ba Omer said: “The locals have expressed their appreciation regarding the opening of these majlises which will no doubt benefit the community positively. We would like to thank PDO for its continuous support, and I especially thank Mr Abdul Amir Al Ajmi for attending the ceremony.”

PDO has previously opened similar facilities in Maqshan and Hamra Adduru’a which serve more than 1,500 people.

The Company has been actively supporting local communities for decades and is currently developing a number of infrastructure projects in partnership with governmental bodies to provide communities with better access to important services and amenities.
