Petroleum Development Oman (PDO), the Oman Society for Petroleum Services (OPAL) and the Ministry of Education (MOE) have recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that provides for the training and employment for 600 Omani women.

The training will equip the job-seekers with the necessary skills to work as kindergarten teachers. The programme will last for four months, one of which will be spent in schools selected specifically for the purpose of providing on-the-job training. On successful completion of the programme, the trainees will be guaranteed full-time employment with private schools in the Sultanate.

The MoU was signed by Fatima bint Abbas Nourani, Director-General of Private Schools at MOE, Abdul Amir bin Abdul-Hussein al Ajmi, PDO’s External Affairs and Value Creation Director, and Musallam bin Rashid al Mantheri, OPAL’s Chief Executive Officer. The signing took place at the opening ceremony of SchoolEX Symposium and Exhibition 2018 which was organised by MOE at the Oman Convention and Exhibition Centre.

PDO External Affairs and Value Creation Director Abdul-Amir Abdul-Hussein al Ajmi said: “This MoU is another great example of how we are collaborating with other parties to boost female empowerment and provide first-class training. We are working hard with our partners to create training and employment opportunities both within and beyond the oil and gas industry to support the diversification of Oman’s economy.”

The MoU states that PDO will fund the training programme, while OPAL will ensure that it is conducted to the highest international standards. The Ministry is then responsible for providing the job opportunities for the trainees with private schools.

Abdullah bin Salim al Sinani, Human Resources Executive Manager at OPAL, commended PDO for its role in sponsoring the training. He said: “PDO is supporting this programme as part of its training for employment initiative to equip Omanis with high level skills. We are looking forward to working together to create even more meaningful employment opportunities for Omanis.”

This training is part of PDO’s National Objectives programme, which is targeting the creation of 17,000 job, training, redeployment, transfer and scholarship opportunities this year alone.
