Participants of Arab women’s meet thank His Majesty

MUSCAT: Participants at the 7th Annual Conference of the Arab Women Organization (AWO) entitled “Economic Empowerment of Women and the Promotion of the Values of Peace, Justice and Citizenship” sent a cable of thanks and gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos. In their cable, they expressed their utmost thanks and appreciation for the care provided by His Majesty the Sultan to women, as well as for the generous hospitality extended to them.


In the cable, they also stressed that organising this conference in the Sultanate affirms His Majesty the Sultan’s care to promote the status of women in the Omani society and their active role in the development of her country and society.


They hailed His Majesty’s wise policy, which established fundamentals of social justice, equality, care and empowerment for the Omani woman.


They concluded their cable by praying to Allah the Almighty to protect His Majesty the Sultan as a wise leader who guides Oman towards better future while Oman enjoys prosperity, security and welfare under His Majesty’s wise leadership.


The conference was held in Muscat on December 18 and 19 with the participation of members of AWO from different Arab countries.


EMPOWERMENT: The conference continued it activities for the second day on Wednesday.


The second day included two working sessions. The first session entitled “Good Citizenship and its Role in Achieving Women Empowerment”, included a number of working papers: The role of higher education institutions in promoting the economic and social empowerment of Omani women; The role of information, monitoring and evaluation in economic empowerment of women: The Egyptian women’s observatory as a model; The importance of openness to new experiences of empowering girls and women economically; How to integrate gender into the policies, plans and programmes of Arab countries; and Programmes of regional and international bodies and institutions in the field of social justice: Psychological condition.


The second session entitled “Empowerment and Social Justice and its Role in Promoting the Values of Peace and Citizenship” included several working papers, namely the efforts of the Ministry of Social Development in the economic and social empowerment of the families of social security and low income; Empowerment and social justice and their role in promoting the values of peace and citizenship; The economic empowerment of women in Mauritania through small projects; and Role of the sustainable development projects of Al Mustaqbal Development Society in promoting women’s economic empowerment during the humanitarian crisis in Yemen.


Based on work papers and panel discussions during the conference, a number of recommendations have been put forward.


These recommendations were entitled ‘Muscat Advertisement’ as a recognition for the Sultanate’s effective role in hosting the AWO.


The conference mainly called upon participants to enhance the culture of dialogue among family members, boost institutional work and support the women’s economic contributions to society.


The closing statement stressed that the AWO aimed at bridging gaps, instilling values of social justice and setting up modern visions that help empower women socially and economically.
