PART Chairman awarded hon doctorate in UK

By Staff Reporter — MUSCAT: Dr Abdullah bin Nasser al Harrasi, Chairman of Public Authority for Radio and Television (PART), has been awarded the honorary doctorate by Aston University in the UK. He was honoured for his efforts in the field of science and culture on Tuesday at a graduation ceremony in Birmingham. The Observer interacted with Dr AL Harrasi on Wednesday and congratulated him for the contributions in the field of Omani literature and media.


Professor Christina Schaffner of Aston University in her speech at the graduation ceremony referred to his efforts in the field of language and translation and for offering supervision the Omani Encyclopedia Project. He has played a key role in the development of translation field, which included the translation of books and literature in Arabic and English languages. John Sunderland, President of Aston University, awarded the certificate to Dr Al Harrasi. It may be noted that the Omani Encyclopedia consists of 11 volumes of about 4,000 entries alphabetically arranged.  The themes include major areas — namely ‘Oman’s geography, media, economy, history and writing, Oman ancient history, culture and society, animal kingdom and institutions’. The entries included non-text data like maps, images, natural and historical drawings.
