Panel underscores need to curb environmental hazards

MUSCAT: Mohammed bin Salim al Toobi, Minister of Environment and Climate Affairs, presided over the first meeting of the Health and Environment Committee at the ministry’s premises in Al Khuwair, on Thursday. The meeting was attended by Dr Mohammed bin Saif al Hosni, Under-Secretary for Health at the Ministry of Health.


Engineer Ahmed bin Zahir al Hinai, Acting Director-General of Environmental Affairs, acquainted the attendees about the Arab strategy for health and environment in terms of its targets, priorities as well as the health and environment indicators in the Arab region.


The Arab health and environment strategy is one of the decisions of the joint meeting between the Arab Health Ministers Council and the Arab Environment Ministers Council which was held at the Arab League premises in March last year.


The meeting underscored the need to curb environmental hazards and their impact on health in the Arab region as well as adopting a cooperative style for the health and environment sectors in the Arab world.
