Panel discussion on status of cultural message held

MUSCAT: Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Science on Wednesday organised at its premises a panel discussion on the status of the cultural message in the Sultanate. The panel discussion which was held under the auspices of Habib bin Mohammed al Riyami, Secretary General of Sultan Qaboos Higher Center for Culture and Science is part of the Center’s cultural plan. Al Riyami in his speech said that youth and juniors need a responsible cultural speech, especially the world is witnessing rapid scientific developments and invention which may affect the youths’ identity. He added that scientists, thinkers and men of letters should promote a speech that limit the involvement of youths in western irresponsible cultures.


Shaikh Zhair bin Abdullah al Abri said that culture is not just certain practices but rather a human effort that promote man and leads him to a better life and morals. Dr Raya bint Salim al Mantheriyah highlighted the negative effects of social media networks and open media on our life.


Abdul Razaq bin Jabbar al Rubieai spoke on the role of the Sultanate in enriching Arab culture. He pointed out that the Sultanate’s interest in promoting culture was not focused on the national level but rather included the Arab level as His Majesty has dedicated Sultan Qaboos Award for Culture, Arts and Literature for Arab and Omani intellectuals. — ONA
