SALALAH, Nov 14 -

Health indicators of Dhofar Governorate and challenges being faced by the Directorate of Health Services in the implementation of administrative and technical works were discussed at the first meeting of the Follow-up and Coordination Committee of Health Services.

The meeting, held in line with the ministerial decree on the formation of the coordination and follow-up committees in the governorates by the Ministerial Resolution 131/2017, was chaired by Dr Sultan bin Yarub al Busaidi, Adviser in the Ministry of Health. The committee members took part in the discussion on Tuesday in the meeting hall of the General Directorate of Health Services in Dhofar Governorate.

These committees, according to a member, aim to follow up progress of work in the general directorates of health services in the governorates and sort out the issues in consultation with the competent authorities.

The idea is to keep an eye on implementation of plans and development of works at each level in addition to follow-up plans for epidemiological preparedness. Epidemiological branch of medicine deals with the incidence, distribution and control of diseases.

The committee is also entrusted with the task of assessing the medical response and public health in cases of crisis and disaster and strengthening cooperation and communication with the government, civil and community agencies.

Meanwhile, a workshop on ‘Smart Pharmacy’ was held in the meeting hall on Monday. The presenters put stress on adopting the best practices while setting up pharmaceutical care and medical warehouses.

The concept is aimed at enabling the staff pharmacists and associated health professionals with special skills so that they can offer quality pharmaceutical care to the patients.
