Panel assesses progress in Oman-Belarus ties

MUSCAT: The Omani side of Oman-Belarusian Parliamentary Friendship Committee at the State Council on Wednesday hosted Qais bin Mohammed al Yusuf, Chairman, and officials of the Omani Chamber of Commerce and Industry (OCCI), as well as several heads of other companies. Dr Khalid bin Salim al Saeedi, Secretary-General of the State Council, Dr Ahmed bin Ali al Mashikhi, Head of the Committee, and others received the delegation. Dr Khalid stated that the friendship committees among parliaments validate the strong emphasis on their keenness to engage more closely and lead to better outcomes.


They enable strengthening and developing inter-parliamentary relations, facilitate the exchange of information and experiences with members of other parliaments. The parliamentary friendship committees reflect the serious value that is placed on developing international parliamentary friendship and engage on key issues. They act as a forum for policy discussion, dissemination of information and understanding of common topics of interest and in development of robust and appropriate public policy. The fourth meeting of the Committee, chaired by Dr Ahmed bin Ali al Mashikhi, Head of the Oman-Belarusian Parliamentary Friendship Committee, was held in the presence of members of the committee and reviewed the results of the visit of the delegation to Belarus, and the trade agreements that were finalised during the visit.


The committee discussed mechanisms for developing economic cooperation with Belarus in light and heavy industries, foodstuffs and bilateral cooperation in agriculture and tourism. Those present at the meeting included officials from OCCI and Ghanim bin Dhar al Bathari, Chairman of the Board of Directors of Tiger Contracting, Ahmad bin Ali al Mahrouqi, Chairman of the Board of Directors of the Sultanate’s investment services company, Shaikh Ali bin Salim al Junaibi Head of Board of Directors of Al Ghalbi, Younis al Balushi, CEO of Gas Road Company, and Yousef bin Abdul Karim al Hooti, Company in media.
