Salalah: The Sultanate, represented by the Ministry of Social Development, celebrated the Omani Women’s Day at Sultan Qaboos Youth Cultural and Entertainment Complex in Salalah on Tuesday. The day falls on October 17. The event with the theme “Woman and Family Economy” was presided over by Sayyid Mohammed bin Sultan al Busaidy, Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar in the presence of Shaikh Mohammed bin Said al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development, some honourable members of the State Council, members of Majlis Ash’shura and officials.


The ceremony covered a number of items, including the presentation of statistical indicators on Omani women from the National Centre for Statistics and Information and a presentation highlighting the role of Omani women in various fields.


During the ceremony, 10 contracts were signed between Salalah Methanol Company and Omani Women’s Associations in the Governorate of Dhofar to finance programmes and projects for social responsibility in various governorates.


At the end of the ceremony, the Minister of State and Governor of Dhofar honoured a number of women entrepreneurs, participants and contributors.


In another ceremony, Shaikh al Kalbani inaugurated the building of the Omani Woman’s Association in Thamrait. An exhibition of the Omani Women’s Associations at Salalah Gardens Mall was inaugurated by Dr Yahya bin Badr al Maawali, Under-Secretary of the Ministry Social Development.

A seminar on family will be held on Wednesday at the Sultan Qaboos Cultural and Entertainment Complex in Salalah in the presence of the Minister of Social Development.


A number of working papers will be presented by various specialists addressing different indicators of the efforts by all government and private institutions to enhance the role of woman and their active participation in achieving sustainable develop-ment.


October 17 was marked as Omani Women’s Day during the Omani Women’s Forum held in October 2009 in Saih Al Makarim in the Wilayat of Suhar. — ONA
