MUSCAT: The Main Committee for Sultan Qaboos Award for Voluntary Work announced that more than 60 voluntary work projects, that were submitted by the different organisations, have met the requirements of the Committee for the 5th version of the award (2017).

Mubarak bin Ali al Rahbi, Member and Rapporteur of the Main Committee for the Award, said that the Committee on Sunday held a meeting under the chairmanship of Shaikh Mohammed bin Said al Kalbani, Minister of Social Development, during which it fixed December 5th as the day for unveiling and honouring winners of the award. Individuals, NGOs and companies that support national work in the Sultanate will be recognised on this day which coincides with the Omani Voluntary Day.

“The committee has reviewed the mechanisms for assessing works, the judging process and the media plan for the award. The Committee decided to form a judging committee under the chairmanship of the Undersecretary of the Ministry of Commerce and Industry with representatives from the United Nations Volunteer Programme, Sultan Qaboos University, Ministry of Social Development and a number of prominent figures in voluntary work,” he said in a statement.

“The judging panel will soon visit a number of projects nominated for the award to physically inspect the project and assess its sustainability, concept, work methodology, application and its positive effects, as well as future aims and plans. — ONA
