Over 153,000 business activities in Q4, 2017

MUSCAT: The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MoCI) pointed out that the number of business activities registered in the different governorates during the fourth quarter (Q4) 2017 stood at 153,700; a growth by 369.8 per cent compared to 32,716 during the same period in 2016.


The Statistic Department at the Ministry pointed out that the business activities in the last quarter of 2017 were focused in the Governorate of Muscat (32.8 per cent) followed by the Governorate of North Al Batinah (14.9 per cent), the Governorate of Dhofar (12.7 per cent) and then the other governorates.


The MoCI pointed out that Muscat has registered the highest number of activities with 50,426, compared to 8,740 during the same period in 2016, followed by North Al Batinah with 22,956, compared to 5,793 and Dhofar with 19,562 compared to 5,706 during the same period in 2016.


In the Governorate of Al Dakhiliyah, 12,938 business activities were registered during the fourth quarter of 2017; a change by 300.7 per cent compared to the same period in 2016. 12,343 business activities were registered in the Governorate of North Al Sharqiyah; a change by 396.5 per cent compared to the same period last year. 10,489 business activities were registered in South Al Batinah compared to 2,075 during the same period last year.


10,304 business activities were registered in the Governorate of South Al Sharqiyah; a change of 464 per cent compared to the same period in 2016. 6,376 business activities were registered in the Governorate of Al Dhahirah, a change by 393.9 per cent.


While 5,156 business activities were registered in the Governorate of Al Buraimi, 1,829 business activities were registered in Al Wusta and 1,321 in the Governorate of Musandam. — ONA
