OOC Committee discusses Asian Games preparations

Muscat: The Planning & Follow-up Committee of Oman Olympic Committee (OOC) held its third meeting this year under the chairmanship of Shaikh Saif bin Hilal al Hosni, Committee Chairman; and in the presence of Taha bin Sulaiman al Kishry, OOC Secretary-General. The meeting discussed a number of important files and ongoing preparations for participation in the 18th Asian Games scheduled to be held in the two cities of Jakarta and Palembang, Indonesia, during the period from 18 August through to 2 September 2018; the Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Buenos Aires 2018 and Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, as well as the programmes of the Olympic Solidarity of International Olympic Committee (IOC).


Shaikh Saif bin Hilal al Hosni, Chairman of Planning & Follow-up Committee, stressed that the committee operates in the light of the overall strategy of Oman Olympic Committee and directives of its board of directors and in accordance with the short-term, medium-term and long-term objectives in cooperation and integration with the sports associations and committees, the aim being to create close connection between the various programmes and plans. He added that coordinating efforts would further strengthen the deliverables, quality and efficiency of participation in various sports tournaments. He called for joint efforts between OOC, sports associations, committees and organisations with a view to opening up prospects for further sports achievements.


The meeting reviewed the reports presented by the committee’s working team focusing on the continuing field tours made to training venues and on the plans and programmes and technical analysis of the results achieved by the national teams which will take part in the upcoming Asian Games. The committee confirmed that the final recommendation determining the sports and qualified athletes who will participate will be released in July next with due consideration to the standards prescribed for participation.
