From Wednesday, March 21, all applications for tourist and express visas will only be available online and not at the service counters, said Royal Oman Police in a statement on Sunday.

The applicants are requested to visit the website, rop.gov.om, fill in the travel documents and attach all documents as requested.

The applicants pay the fees by debit card through the official e-payment portal.

Applicants will receive e-visa approval note by email following which they should print the document and present it to the immigrant staff at the airport.

The e-visa service will help visitors to avoid long queues at the visa counters at the airport, which in the process will make their entry to Oman faster and seemless.

Airlines bringing in passengers to Oman have been calling for streamlining of the e-visa procedures for the benefit of who have to wait at the airport in queues to get visas on arrival.

“Simplified visa procedures are important as we trying to bring more tourists to Oman as per the national economic diversification policy.  E-Visa will be of beneficial to travellers, especially the first-time visitors to the country,” a top executive of a Oman-based airline had earlier told the Observer.

ROP had introduced its new e-Visa system last year to make it easier for hotels and tour operators to book travel visas for guests.

Travellers eligible for non-sponsored visas can also apply directly through the website
