SALALAH, DEC 25 - Omani participants of the Arab-African Youth Forum hailed the gathering as an important learning point for the participants as wide range of issues prevailing in the Afro-Arab region were raised and valuable suggestions were made to resolve them.

The Omani participants Said bin Salim al Harizi and Omar bin Ali al Shahri made an impact at the on-going forum, held in Cairo, Egypt, with their presentation on scientific thinking and suggestions to draw a larger plan to develop the region. Both the participants from Oman are from Salalah and are names to reckon with for their innovative ideas and work in energy research and environment.

Both Al Harizi and Al Shahri put stress on peace in the Afro-Arab region and exhorted the youths to play a vital role in this direction. The forum, according to Al Harizi, revolved mostly around three major pillars of development, security and peace.

“I call it an important platform for the youth for its openness in discussion, which was rightly titled ‘Think Afro-Arab’ and dwelt upon the issue of development of the African and Arab countries through youths,” said Al Harizi.

“I congratulate the Egypt’s Ministry of Sports and Arab League for bringing young minds at one platform under the theme of ‘One dream, one goal,” he said. The panel discussions, according to him, were very useful as the panelists were drawn from Egypt, South Sudan, Saudi Arabia, Cameroon, Oman and Yemen.

The speakers were concerned about the development of African countries and sought to build bridges of communication to draw a realistic approach towards the youth of the region. The forum, which started on December 19, is to conclude on December 28 with strong recommendations and future plans of action.
