Oman’s support to GCC hailed

MUSCAT: Gulf Cooperation Council Secretary-General Dr Abdullatif bin Rashid al Zayani on Sunday thanked the Sultanate for its efforts to support the GCC under the wise leadership of His Majesty Sultan Qaboos.
Dr Al Zayani was delivering a lecture at the National Defence College (NDC) which hosted him as part of the 6th module for the national defence course.
The GCC Secretary-General gave an overview of the economic and security developments in the Gulf region. He highlighted the joint GCC projects and agreements, such as the joint defence agreement, the establishment of the Peninsula Shield Force, the Joint Command and the establishment of the military training academy.
Dr Al Zayani presented academic questions and requested participants to comment on them. He also highlighted the security cooperation in combating drugs and terrorism.






He touched on the joint GCC economic cooperation in areas such as the GCC railway project and the establishment of a common energy market. At the end of the lecture, he answered questions raised by attendees and participants of the 6th national defence course.
The programme was attended by the Chief of Staff of the Sultan’s Armed Forces (SAF), the Commandant of the National Defence College, senior officers from SAF, as well as other military and security services, members of the State Council, members of the NDC board members, diplomats, academics, representatives of public organisations, NDC’s Steering and Teaching Board and participants of the 6th NDC course.
Dr Al Zayani arrived here on Saturday night when he was received at Muscat International Airport by Maj Gen Salem bin Musalam Qatan, Commandant of NDC, Brigadier Sulaiman bin Khalid al Zakwani, Director-General of Studies and Academic Affairs at NDC, and senior SAF officers. — ONA
