Muscat, Sept 16 - The Omani nationals studying in institutions in the south-west Australia, which was hit by an earthquake earlier in the day, are safe, the Ministry of Higher Education said on Sunday. A statement issued by the ministry quoted Dr Hamoud bin Amer al Wardi, the Sultanate’s Consul General in Australia, as saying the students were safe. The 5.6 magnitude tremor, which shook buildings in the area, had its epicentre some 10km below the surface in an area known as Walpole near Lake Muir, said the local reports. Dr Hamoud said the relatively mild quake was centred some 60km from where the accommodations of the Omani students are located.
