Omani photographers sweep awards at the 39th Youth Biennial Competition

The winners of the 39th Youth Biennial Competition were awarded last Tuesday at the Sultan Qaboos Center for Culture and Science of the Diwan of Royal Court. The ceremony was patronized by Dr. Abdullah bin Nasser Al-Harasi, Chairman of the General Authority for Radio and Television.


The International Federation of Photographic Arts (FIAP) announced that the Sultanate accomplished 459 points and deserved the World Cup in the under-16 years category, followed by Slovenia, which won the gold medal (439) and Serbia (434), Russia, which won the bronze medal by (421) points.


The Sultanate also won the FIAP Under-21 years category World Cup, with a score of 437 points, followed by Norway (427), Bulgaria (413) and Cyprus (412) Point.


The Sultanate won four individual awards courtesy of the following photographers — Maa’li al Shukaili won the silver medal, Hayat Al Balushi won the bronze medal in the Youth under-16 years category.


In the under-21 years category, Qais al Badaei won the silver medal and Abdullah al Ruzaiqi attained the bronze medal.


The achievements of the Omani youth at the Youth Biennial Competition and other international contests is something to be proud with. They are proving their ability to compete with photographers worldwide.


Young photographers from Oman has won World Cups at the FIAP Youth Biennale in 2012, 2014 and 2016, in addition to this year 2018.


Ibrahim al Busaidi, Governor of Buraimi and the Chairman of the board of Directors of Photographic Society of Oman, said “without the support of schools and family, these young competitors wouldn’t be able to achieve these high achievenments. A very creative vision indicating skillful youth is your first impression when you see the photos. It proves that those youths have really benefited from the international expertise they worked with.”
